The Saga Of Ed Pawlowski

Tomorrow the corruption trial of Ed Pawlowski starts in Philadelphia, where a jury will be selected. The trial itself will then take place in Allentown.  Although Allentown will be a media circus for the trial,  this blog will not be covering the trial details.  In my mind Allentown has already been rightly found guilty.  What does it say about a city that elects someone with fifty four counts of corruption filed against him?

I suppose that the trial will be good for downtown business.  All those reporters to feed and house, while Ed's lawyer proclaims his innocence. Although I will not report on the trial per se, I may opine on the accompanying circus.

Allentown's new construction will finally get the exposure which it craves.  Although the Morning Call has been promoting the NIZ, its reach was limited.  Credit Ed Pawlowski for bringing the national press to town.

  1. the following comment from Scott Armstrong, submitted by email.

you are correct, the voters of Allentown are as guilty as Ed for the corruption, they either ignored it, pretended they didn't know, or worse, didn't care because it was their Democrat mayor doing it. Facilitating this voter corruption was our local media that now gleefully covers a story of rampant municipal Corruption they chose to ignore as it transpired over many years. City Democratic elected leaders also closed their eyes to criminal behavior, one chose ironically to run for mayor as a writer in candidate. He told us ," he was the man to clean up city hall", and because Allentown is the epicenter of stupid many people believed him. Now many of these same people who aquiessed to the criminality will be appointing a new mayor if Ed is found guilty. Forgive me if I don't have my hopes up for the future here. Scott Armstrong

  2. I'm ready for the circus, its been a long time coming. I believe MM and SA in their assessment. From my vantage point, I believe that the Polish Prince will be found guilty on some of the counts. That is when the true drama comes about. The O'Connell-Hendricks plan fizzled and Pawlowski moved right into reelection. I can see the rotund-one being dragged out of City Hall kicking and screaming, endlessly saying I didn't do nothing wrong. The same thought process used by Rocket Rob Blagojevich, who is currently serving 14-years. The future of Allentown will than rest in the MacLean camp. The future could look bright, however, Allentown will have to shake off its current blood flow and change the lanscape that now pervades city politics.

  3. I love Scott Armstrong's words describing Allentown as "The Epicenter Of Stupid." Eventually, a former Republican, Council President MaClean will be acting, and possibly the elected Mayor should he choose. It would be in the best interests of the Lehigh Valley if that were to happen. We can only hope.

  4. If I brought up the subject of an all-Democrat local Government, then surely I would be in for a lecture detailing the meaninglessness of ideology that I am entirely far too familiar with.

So f--- Conservative values, etc., once and for all because, quite frankly, I am sick and tired of the incessant condescension.

Good luck with the Great Transformation of Allentown all the same, though.

    Sincerely,

  5. PS - I'm with Mr. Molovinsky in that I'm not necessarily 100% convinced that Mayor Pawlowski will NOT succeed in beating the wrap some how, some way.

Just for the proverbial record, of course.

That said, best of luck to everybody with everything.
