Allentown's Lost Innocence

A posting like above appeared on an Allentown facebook discussion group this past weekend.  Forty two people liked the message, among them a newly elected member of the Allentown School Board. I suppose that these people belong to several groups, none of which is good for Allentown. In the first group you have the totally uninformed. They are probably the least destructive grouping, and likely do not even vote. Secondly, you have the contrarians. There will always be people like them,  and they seem to love facebook groups.  The last group is what scares me the most for Allentown. They know that he abused the system, yet still admire him for it. They know that in order to profess his innocence, he is impugning the reputation of his subordinates, who only followed his directions. Although a few of the nine who pleaded guilty are indeed co-conspirators to his plots, most were sucked in by a greedy and ambitious boss.

Although Pawlowski might be found not guilty because the prosecution cannot reach the current burden of proof, he surely is not innocent. Although I do not care about Pawlowski's future, I do hope that those members of the third group come to realize that government shouldn't be about what you can get out of it for yourself. My hope is probably naive. Greed has become part of large urban politics, and Allentown seems to have lost its innocence.

  1. The newly elected school board member who signed that message of faith in a clearly corrupt politician should scare everyone who cares about public education in Allentown. Sadly she isn't the only board member who is a concern.

  2. And the beat goes on in Allentown! MM, you hit the nail on the heard with the three groupings. There are idiots who believe he is not guilty of anything and this is one big conspiracy effort by the government. If you have any brains or common sense the facts overwhelmingly support his deeds illustrate his leadership in this corrupt operation.

Even if you believe the theory that he was trapped by two overzealous campaign consultants and was helped by unscrupulous directors trying to curry favors from him, he still was the head honcho in charge and let all this corruption proliferate under him. By all meaning then, he was a complete failure as a mayor and leader of Allentown! Forget he is micro-manager; Forget he used burner phones for communications; Forget he had his offices and vehicles swept for bugs; Forget he wanted everybody to erase their e-mails; Forget he wanted everybody to use personal e-mails; Forget he conducted business in bathroom stalls; Forget he had a RFP's personally fit for CIIBER, the TEN Network and NE collections wherein he can gain campaign contributions from wealthy and influential campaign donors; Forget about the open admissions on audio and video tape; and most of all, don't forget lying is in his DNA. Your three groupings show their utter ignorance in this matter and hopefully, they are not sworn jury members!

  3. Whether or not you like Trump: He said he's going to drain the swamp. He recognized what our political system has morphed into. Well you have the swamp right there in A-Town.

Something good can be said about any politician. Mussolini got the trains to run on time.

  4. Scott Armstrong: The dearly beloved Ms Phoebe Harris acted as an infiltrator last spring, she attended several meetings of certain anti Pawlowski Groups proclaiming her disdain for the Mayor, but her and Jessica Ortiz were eventually outed for their duplicity. They worked as spies for Ed, a Truly Nixonian act if ever there was one. Harris now sits behind Ed at his trial regularly. Birds of a feather, flock together

  5. Chris,

A con artist tells people what they think they want to hear even though they don't believe it or know it isn't true. This procedure only works once on most people because after the con the trust becomes apparent. Is it foolish of Ms Harris to think the many people she lied to wouldn't in short order discover her duplicity and dishonest nature? Perhaps she like Ed sized up Allentown well, as populated by rubes and willing accomplices.
